Recent changes introduced under the Trump administration have created important adjustments to the federal solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). Specifically, updates to federal guidance have affected timelines for qualifying installations, prompting many homeowners and businesses to accelerate their projects in order to secure the full 30% credit before year-end.
While policy interpretations are still evolving, the most immediate impact has been a surge in demand, as customers understandably want to ensure their installations meet the criteria for the highest possible credit. We respect and fully support everyone’s desire to make informed financial decisions—and we’re here to help every step of the way.
Because so many purchase-based clients are rushing to finish permitting and installation before the end of the year, every team across the industry—from designers to permitting specialists to installation crews—is experiencing unprecedented volume. This industry-wide push has created temporary bottlenecks despite the extraordinary effort from everyone involved.
In addition, increases in harassment and targeting related to ICE-related activity have unfortunately affected some installation teams’ ability to work safely and consistently. Worker well-being is a top priority across the sector, and many companies—including ours—are taking extensive steps to support crews and ensure they can perform their jobs without compromise.
Solar For All and similar incentive-based programs are also facing compressed timelines. These projects must move forward quickly to retain funding eligibility, adding even more pressure to already-stretched permitting offices and installation partners nationwide.
Compounding this, one of the major investors participating in several project financing structures has placed new investments on temporary pause following the recent federal policy announcements. This has created some delays in financing approvals and scheduling for certain pipelines while the investor reevaluates requirements.
